Battery Upgrade

Over the past few episodes you may have hear us talk about lithium battery upgrades, it is a economical way to put some new life in your electronics.  Whether you want to go with one of the bigger name solutions or are an IceGyver like me, you can drop some weight and add time on the ice.   You will also see an improvement on the life of a charge while it rides around in your truck.   You probably all have experienced the drain that Lead Acid batteries experience in the cold.    A few days in the back of the truck can suck a couple hours out of a charge.    Lithium batteries are much more tolerant of temperature changes.   You might remember that from our discussions about drills to run your auger.   Just as with the drills the Lithium batteries take a special charger, so you will notice the Kits include a charger.   If you put together your own solution you will need to include that in the plan.    I was able to upgrade my hopper bucket with a 20ah, USB ports and a smart charger for under a hundred bucks!  I did also tie in the LED strip under my LX7 that lights the hole.

What Is LiFePO4 And Why Is It A Better Choice?

With the dropping prices of LiFePO4 batteries and the lighter weight, it is an awesome time to give your gear an upgrade.   If you are integrating your own kit, you might consider adding USB ports to your bucket or electronics carrier to keep your phone charged or a lamp to recharge the Glow Jigs.
